Hey, I’m Tim and I watch a lot of movies and TV shows. I love talking about what people have watched recently and making my own recommendations (I’m subscribed to Sky, Netflix, Disney+ and BFI). Why You Always Leave A Note is a place where I can keep all my recommendations in one place. Hopefully you’ll find a new favourite TV show or movie to watch.
I’m not a film or tv critic – I use my WYALAN rating system to categorise my recommendations. I’m not looking to analyse movies and TV shows by Golden Globe or Oscar standards. Instead, I judge by how much I enjoyed watching it and would I watch it again. Did it make me feel something – happy, sad, inspired? Here is an explainer to the WYALAN rating system:
WYALAN rating system:
- 5 stars – Highly enjoyed and would highly recommend as a must watch
- 4 stars – I could watch that again in a few years
- 3 stars – Glad I watched it once, but I’ll probably never watch it again
- 2 stars – Watched to the end, but I wouldn’t watch it again
- 1 star – DNF (did not finish)
I particularly love comedies and my tastes have been heavily influenced by Happy Gilmore, Cool Runnings, Naked Gun (3 of my top 4 favourite films of all time), Anchorman, Zoolander and Arrested Development (where the name of the site comes from).
Aside from recommending films and TV shows I’ve watched recently, I want Why You Always Leave A Note to become your go-to source for great comedies you need to watch.
Of course, movies and TV shows are subjective. Maybe you’ll find something great that I’ve rated 2 stars or under. In the underrated tag, you’ll find movies and TV shows I’ve enjoyed and recommend when IMDb or rotten tomato scores are low.
I also generate ranked lists based on aggregate scores on IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes to help me decide what to watch next. You’ll also find what I’ve watched recently and what’s on my watchlist on the sidebar of any article. Leave comments and recommend what I should watch next.
