Best Disney+ Comedies For Adults

I think Disney+ is underrated and is better than Netflix. Aside from the huge collection of Disney and Pixar films, there are a ton of legendary films for adults on Hotstar. In fact, some of my favourite comedy series and movies of all time can be found on Disney+.

I’ve gathered all the comedy movies and series I recommend. I’ve ranked the comedies in order of how much I laughed, but the star ratings are based on the WYALAN rating for the show or movie as a whole. For example, 500 Days of Summer isn’t a movie with laughs per minute so it appears low on the list, but it remains one of my favourite rom-coms of all time and has a 5/5 rating.

WYALAN star rating explained:

  • 5 stars – Highly enjoyed and would highly recommend as a must watch
  • 4 stars – Enjoyed and would watch again in the future
  • 3 stars – Glad I watched it once, but I’ll probably never watch it again
  • 2 stars – Watched to the end, but I wouldn’t watch it again
  • 1 star – DNF (did not finish)

Arrested Development

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Mitchell Hurwitz (The Ellen Show, The Golden Girls)
Stars: Jason Bateman (Ozark, Horrible Bosses), Portia de Rossi (Ally McBeal, Scandal), Will Arnett (BoJack Horseman, The Lego Movie), Michael Cera (Superbad, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World)
Runtime: 5 seasons
Year Released: 2003–2019

Synopsis: Arrested Development is a satirical sitcom that follows the dysfunctional Bluth family, whose wealth and privilege unravel after the patriarch is arrested for fraud. The series centers on Michael Bluth, the responsible son trying to hold the family together amidst their absurd antics and self-centered behavior. The dry narration by Ron Howard is the cherry on top.

Tim’s Take: One of my favourite comedy series of all time, I will never get bored rewatching. You need to watch Arrested Development at least a few times as there are so many easter eggs you’ll have missed watching the first time. It’s probably still the show I quote the most, despite the first season having been released two decades ago.

The IT Crowd

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Graham Linehan (Father Ted, Black Books)
Stars: Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, The Sapphires), Richard Ayoade (The Double, Submarine), Katherine Parkinson (Humans, The Boat That Rocked), Matt Berry (Toast of London, What We Do in the Shadows)
Runtime: 4 seasons
Year Released: 2006–2013

Synopsis: The IT Crowd is a British sitcom set in the basement of Reynholm Industries, where the socially awkward IT team works. The series follows the misadventures of Roy, Moss, and their clueless manager, Jen, as they navigate office life, technology mishaps, and absurd situations.

Tim’s Take: The description of an awkward IT department may not scream laughter, but similar to Father Ted in that respect the unlikely absurd situations the characters find themselves in do a lot of the heavy lifting matched with the phenomenal physical comedy of O’Dowd, Ayoade and Parkinson. If you also enjoyed the absurdity of Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place, you’ll probably enjoy The IT Crowd too.

Scrubs

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso, Shrinking)
Stars: Zach Braff (Garden State, Wish I Was Here), Donald Faison (Clueless, The Exes), Sarah Chalke (Roseanne, How I Met Your Mother), John C. McGinley (Platoon, Office Space)
Runtime: 9 seasons
Year Released: 2001–2010

Synopsis: Scrubs is a medical comedy-drama that follows the lives of young doctors at Sacred Heart Hospital, focusing on J.D., a quirky and idealistic intern, and his friends as they navigate the challenges of medicine, relationships, and personal growth.

Tim’s Take: While the series may have ran a little too long, the first few seasons are still a must watch. Full of weird and wonderful characters, Scrubs remains a great definition for ensemble cast.

My Cousin Vinny

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Dale Launer (Ruthless People, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Love Potion No. 9)
Stars: Joe Pesci (Goodfellas, Home Alone), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler, Spider-Man: Homecoming), Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai), Fred Gwynne (The Munsters, Pet Sematary)
Runtime: 119 minutes
Year Released: 1992

Synopsis: My Cousin Vinny is a comedy about two New York college students, Bill and Stan, who are wrongly accused of murder while traveling through Alabama. Desperate, they enlist Bill’s cousin, Vinny Gambini, an inexperienced lawyer with no trial experience. Vinny, accompanied by his sharp-tongued fiancée Mona Lisa Vito, must navigate the courtroom and prove their innocence. The film humorously contrasts Vinny’s brash New York demeanor with the reserved Southern culture, delivering sharp wit and memorable performances. Marisa Tomei’s portrayal of Mona Lisa earned her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Tim’s Take: A movie my brother had on VHS tape and thought it was funny then and still is as an adult (the what are you wearing scene will never not make me laugh and something I still quote to this day). Joe Pesci is brilliant as his usual biting, sarcastic self. The plot itself is great as it seems like there is no way out for the defendants and you’re left guessing if Vinny can win the case.

Spy

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat, Ghostbusters)
Stars: Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, The Heat), Jason Statham (The Transporter, Fast & Furious), Rose Byrne (Bridesmaids, Neighbors), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes, The Talented Mr. Ripley)
Runtime: 120 minutes
Year Released: 2015

Synopsis: Spy is a hilarious action-comedy that follows Susan Cooper, a desk-bound CIA analyst who unexpectedly becomes a field agent. When her partner is compromised, Susan volunteers for a dangerous mission to infiltrate the world of arms dealers and prevent a global disaster.

Tim’s Take: Spy is one of the best comedies to have been released in the last 10 years. It’s incredibly silly and reminds me of the humour and gags in Zoolander or Anchorman. There are many James Bond spoofs and parodies, I think Spy is one of the best. In general, Melissa McCarthy in a lead comedic role is always worth a watch I think. Spy is worth watching for Jason Statham’s cameo alone. We need a spin off and he should have more comedic lead roles based on his performance in Spy.

Stuber

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Michael Dowse (Goon, What If), Tripper Clancy (Die Hart, I Am Not Okay with This)
Stars: Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick, Eternals), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy, Dune), Iko Uwais (The Raid, Mile 22), Natalie Morales (Parks and Recreation, Dead to Me)
Runtime: 93 minutes
Year Released: 2019

Synopsis: Stuber is an action-comedy that follows Stu, a mild-mannered Uber driver, who unwittingly becomes the chauffeur for a grizzled detective on a high-stakes mission. As the mismatched duo navigates dangerous situations and hilarious mishaps, Stu must find his inner courage to survive the wild ride. It’s an unlikely buddy-comedy movie.

Tim’s Take: Kumail Nanjiani rarely misses (I implore you to watch The Big Sick) and Stuber is up there with one of his best comedy movies I think.

Peep Show

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Jesse Armstrong (Succession, Fresh Meat), Sam Bain (Babylon, Four Lions)
Stars: David Mitchell (Upstart Crow, Would I Lie to You?), Robert Webb (Back, The Smoking Room), Olivia Colman (The Crown, The Favourite), Matt King (Bronson, Doctor Who)
Runtime: 9 seasons
Year Released: 2003–2015

Synopsis: Peep Show is a British sitcom that follows the lives of Mark Corrigan and Jeremy “Jez” Usbourne, two dysfunctional best friends sharing a flat in Croydon, South London. Mark is a socially awkward loan manager with intellectual aspirations, while Jez is a laid-back slacker dreaming of musical fame. The show uses unique point-of-view shots and voiceovers to reveal the characters’ inner thoughts, creating humor from the contrast between their intentions and actions. Peep Show is a truly unique comedy.

Tim’s Take: Before Succession, Jesse Armstrong created Peep Show. Two very different shows, but similar jokes ties them together.

Hot Shots! Part Deux

WYALAN Rating: 3.5/5
Created by: Jim Abrahams (Airplane!, The Naked Gun), Pat Proft (Police Academy, Scary Movie 3)
Stars: Charlie Sheen (Platoon, Two and a Half Men), Lloyd Bridges (Airplane!, Sea Hunt), Valeria Golino (Rain Man, Big Top Pee-wee), Richard Crenna (Rambo: First Blood Part II, The Flamingo Kid)
Runtime: 89 minutes
Year Released: 1993

Synopsis: Hot Shots! Part Deux is a parody film that hilariously spoofs action movies, particularly the Rambo series. The story follows Topper Harley, a retired Navy pilot, as he is recruited for a daring mission to rescue hostages in Iraq. Packed with absurd humor, over-the-top action sequences, and clever gags you’d expect from a Jim Abrahams movie.

Tim’s Take: After the success of Airplane! and The Naked Gun came Hot Shots! Part Deux. Not as funny as the previous two in my opinion, but still has the same silly parody humour. If you enjoyed either of those movies, you’ll probably enjoy Hot Shots! Part Deux.

English Teacher

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Brian Jordan Alvarez (The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, Will & Grace)
Stars: Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace, Everything Everywhere All at Once), Stephanie Koenig (The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, The Flight Attendant), Enrico Colantoni (Veronica Mars, Galaxy Quest), Sean Patton (Inside Amy Schumer, Maron)
Runtime: 1 season
Year Released: 2024

Synopsis: English Teacher is a comedy series that follows Evan Marquez, a high school English teacher in Austin, Texas. Evan navigates the challenges of balancing his professional, personal, and political life while working at Morrison-Hensley High School. Alongside his best friend Gwen, a history teacher, and other quirky colleagues, Evan faces the ever-changing dynamics of students, parents, and school politics.

Tim’s Take: One of the better comedy series to have been released in the last couple of years, I see English Teacher as Abbott Elementary’s bigger brother.

10 Things I Hate About You

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Gil Junger (Black Knight, Hope Floats), Karen McCullah (Legally Blonde, The House Bunny), Kirsten Smith (Legally Blonde, Ella Enchanted)
Stars: Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight, Brokeback Mountain), Julia Stiles (Save the Last Dance, The Bourne Identity), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, Looper), Larisa Oleynik (The Secret World of Alex Mack, 3rd Rock from the Sun)
Runtime: 97 minutes
Year Released: 1999

Synopsis: 10 Things I Hate About You is a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, set in a high school. It follows the story of Kat Stratford, a fiercely independent and sharp-tongued senior, and her younger sister Bianca, whose dating life is restricted by their father’s rules. When new student Cameron falls for Bianca, he devises a plan to get bad boy Patrick Verona to date Kat, leading to unexpected romance and humor.

Tim’s Take: One of my favourite rom-coms of all time, 10 Things I Hate About You has several brilliant character arcs which I think sets it apart from other rom-coms.

Rye Lane

WYALAN Rating: 4.5/5
Created by: Raine Allen-Miller (debut feature film), Nathan Bryon (Bloods, Zero Chill), Tom Melia (Brassic, Bloods)
Stars: David Jonsson (Industry, Deep State), Vivian Oparah (Class, The Rebel), Poppy Allen-Quarmby (The Peripheral, The Nevers), Simon Manyonda (His Dark Materials, Doctor Who)
Runtime: 82 minutes
Year Released: 2023

Synopsis: Rye Lane is a vibrant romantic comedy set in South London, following Yas and Dom, two strangers who bond over their recent breakups. As they spend the day exploring Peckham and Brixton, their shared experiences and quirky adventures lead to unexpected connections.

Tim’s Take: One of the better rom-coms to have been released in the last few years and flew under the radar in my opinion. It’s as good as any Richard Curtis rom-com. The leads are instantly likable making this one to add to your list of feel good movies.

Fire Island

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Andrew Ahn (Spa Night, Driveways), Joel Kim Booster (Loot, The Other Two)
Stars: Joel Kim Booster (Loot, The Other Two), Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live, The Other Two), Margaret Cho (All-American Girl, Drop Dead Diva), Conrad Ricamora (How to Get Away with Murder, The Resident)
Runtime: 105 minutes
Year Released: 2022

Synopsis: Fire Island is a modern romantic comedy inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. Set on the iconic LGBTQ+ vacation destination, the film follows a group of friends navigating love, friendship, and self-discovery during their annual summer getaway. Fire Island celebrates queer culture and community while delivering a fresh take on timeless themes.

Tim’s Take: Another rom-com which I think flew under the radar and deserves more recognition. The inspired remake of Pride and Prejudice is done incredibly well, pushing the story into the present day and all the trials and tribulations dating brings.

Office Space

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill)
Stars: Ron Livingston (Band of Brothers, The Conjuring), Jennifer Aniston (Friends, The Morning Show), Gary Cole (Veep, Talladega Nights), Stephen Root (Barry, NewsRadio)
Runtime: 89 minutes
Year Released: 1999

Synopsis: Office Space is a cult classic comedy that satirizes the monotony of corporate life. It follows Peter Gibbons, a disillusioned software engineer, who decides to rebel against his soul-crushing job at Initech. Alongside his equally frustrated coworkers, Peter hatches a scheme to embezzle money from the company.

Tim’s Take: Weirdly, I watched the first 20 minutes and turned it off. It just didn’t grab me and I wondered why Office Space was considered a cult classic. I decided to watch it again several years later. I was wrong. I think the movie gets a lot better past those 20 minutes as the story picks up.

Super Troopers

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Jay Chandrasekhar (Beerfest, Club Dread), Broken Lizard (The Slammin’ Salmon, Quasi)
Stars: Jay Chandrasekhar (Beerfest, Club Dread), Kevin Heffernan (Beerfest, Tacoma FD), Steve Lemme (Beerfest, Tacoma FD), Paul Soter (Beerfest, Club Dread), Erik Stolhanske (Beerfest, Tacoma FD)
Runtime: 103 minutes
Year Released: 2001

Synopsis: Super Troopers is a comedy about a group of quirky Vermont state troopers who spend more time pulling pranks than enforcing the law. When their station faces closure due to low productivity, the troopers must step up to solve a murder case and outwit the local police department.

Tim’s Take: Some scenes probably wouldn’t be made today, but it is in full spirit of the comedies being released in the early 2000s like Anchorman and American Pie. It was odd seeing Brian Cox in a comedic role and film such as this. If you enjoyed Reno 911, you’ll probably enjoy Super Troopers.

Dave

WYALAN Rating: 3/5
Created by: Dave Burd (Lil Dicky, Hi, I’m Dave), Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm, The League)
Stars: Dave Burd (Lil Dicky, Hi, I’m Dave), GaTa (himself), Taylor Misiak (American Vandal, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend), Andrew Santino (I’m Dying Up Here, The Disaster Artist)
Runtime: season 3
Year Released: 2020–2023

Synopsis: Dave is a comedy series that follows Dave Burd, a dreamer in his late twenties, who is convinced he’s destined to become one of the greatest rappers of all time. As he navigates the music industry, Dave struggles to balance his ambition with his personal relationships, including his friendships, romantic life, and his partnership with GaTa, his hype man who faces his own challenges with mental health.

Tim’s Take: I feel like Dave maybe ran on for a little too long, but the first couple of seasons are worth watching. If you enjoyed Flight of the Conchords, you might like Dave.

The Zone: Survival Mission

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Cho Hyo-jin (Running Man, X-Man), Kim Dong-jin (Busted!, Village Survival, the Eight)
Stars: Yoo Jae-suk (Running Man, Infinite Challenge), Kwon Yuri (Girls’ Generation, Bossam: Steal the Fate), Lee Kwang-soo (Running Man, Live), Kim Dong-hyun (Busted!, The Return of Superman), Dex (Physical: 100)
Runtime: season 3
Year Released: 2022

Synopsis: The Zone: Survival Mission is a thrilling Korean variety show where cast members are placed in disaster-themed simulations and must endure for four hours to complete their missions. With humor, teamwork, and unexpected challenges, the show offers a unique blend of survival scenarios and entertainment, keeping viewers engaged with its creative concept and dynamic cast.

Tim’s Take: Probably the most underrated pick on the list due to it being in Korean with English subtitles, but I think it’s worth watching. It’s a little like Taskmaster, a little like an escape room and is at its best when the team panic or face a scary situation. If you like Busted on Netflix, you’ll like The Zone. Warning, watching the show will make you hungry (you’ll understand when you watch).

High Fidelity

WYALAN Rating: 5/5
Created by: Stephen Frears (The Queen, Dangerous Liaisons), Nick Hornby (About a Boy, Fever Pitch)
Stars: John Cusack (Say Anything, Grosse Pointe Blank), Iben Hjejle (High Fidelity, The Boss of It All), Jack Black (School of Rock, Kung Fu Panda), Lisa Bonet (The Cosby Show, Angel Heart)
Runtime: 113 minutes
Year Released: 2000

Synopsis: High Fidelity is a witty romantic dramedy that follows Rob Gordon, a record store owner in Chicago, as he navigates his love life and obsession with music. After being dumped by his girlfriend, Rob revisits his past relationships to understand his failures.

Tim’s Take: Another of my favourite rom-coms of all time on the list, High Fidelity takes an introspective look at relationships, breakups and memory that is all probably too familiar.

See How They Run

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Tom George (This Country, Defending the Guilty), Mark Chappell (Flaked, Bliss)
Stars: Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Jojo Rabbit), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird, Little Women), Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Ruth Wilson (Luther, The Affair)
Runtime: 98 minutes
Year Released: 2022

Synopsis: See How They Run is a comedic murder mystery set in 1950s London. When a Hollywood director is murdered during the production of a film adaptation of Agatha Christie’s play The Mousetrap, a seasoned inspector and an eager rookie constable team up to solve the case.

Tim’s Take: I know what you’re thinking, another murder mystery. You can definitely make space for just one more as Rockwell and Ronan are a buddy cop duo you didn’t know you needed. Rockwell plays his usual dour self as a detective while Ronan provides comedic relief in the form of naivety as a rookie constable. There’s also a lot more to this than just the murder mystery which also sets it above the standard genre releases.

Isle of Dogs

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Grand Budapest Hotel)
Stars: Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad, Malcolm in the Middle), Edward Norton (Fight Club, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Bill Murray (Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation), Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation, Black Widow)
Runtime: 101 minutes
Year Released: 2018

Synopsis: Isle of Dogs is a stop-motion animated film set in a dystopian Japan, where all dogs are exiled to Trash Island due to a canine flu outbreak. The story follows Atari, a young boy who ventures to the island to find his lost dog, Spots. Alongside a group of stray dogs, Atari uncovers a conspiracy that threatens the future of all canines (I know, it’s hard to imagine a world without dogs).

Tim’s Take: Despite there being three Wes Anderson films on this list, I’m actually not the biggest fan of his films. I appreciate his style, aesthetics and framing of shots, but I think most of his storylines are only okay. For me, the problem is every movie is just a bunch of weird characters doing weird thing which I find repetitive. When you’ve seen one, you’ve kind of seen all his movies. But it’s different when it’s dogs of course as it is in Isle of Dogs.

A Real Pain

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, When You Finish Saving the World)
Stars: Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland), Kieran Culkin (Succession, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Will Sharpe (The Electrical Life of Louis Wain, Flowers), Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing, Red Oaks)
Runtime: 90 minutes
Year Released: 2024

Synopsis: A Real Pain is a comedy-drama that follows two mismatched cousins, Benji and David, as they embark on a Jewish heritage tour through Poland in honor of their late grandmother. Amidst the backdrop of family history and Holocaust sites, their contrasting personalities spark tension.

Tim’s Take: Despite the seriousness of the storyline, A Real Pain expertly weaves funny thoughts and opinions throughout the journey. Culkin somehow remains endearing and likable, even drawing sympathy.

Only Murders in the Building

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Steve Martin (The Jerk, Father of the Bride), John Hoffman (Grace and Frankie, Looking)
Stars: Steve Martin (The Pink Panther, Cheaper by the Dozen), Martin Short (Three Amigos, Innerspace), Selena Gomez (Wizards of Waverly Place, Spring Breakers)
Runtime: 4 seasons
Year Released: 2021

Synopsis: Only Murders in the Building is a mystery-comedy series centered on three strangers who share a love for true crime podcasts. When a murder occurs in their upscale Manhattan apartment building, the trio decides to investigate and create their own podcast documenting the case.

Tim’s Take: Martin, Short and Gomez is an odd dynamic on paper at first glance, but they perfectly bounce off each as a trio. It’s also one of the best written murder mysteries, four seasons later and I’ve yet to guess the correct killer. If Ocean’s Eleven was a murder mystery, it might look something like Only Murders in the Building. Although it’s much more than just a murder mystery I would argue, there is a lot of heartfelt character development throughout for all three.

Date Night

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Stranger Things), Josh Klausner (Shrek Forever After, Date Night)
Stars: Steve Carell (The Office, The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Tina Fey (30 Rock, Mean Girls), Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Ted), Taraji P. Henson (Empire, Hidden Figures)
Runtime: 88 minutes
Year Released: 2010

Synopsis: Date Night is a comedy about a suburban couple, Phil and Claire Foster, whose attempt to spice up their routine date night leads to a case of mistaken identity. What starts as a simple dinner out spirals into a wild adventure involving mobsters, corrupt cops, and a stolen flash drive.

Tim’s Take: I’m not sure I need to say much more than Steve Carell and Tina Fey to be honest. An incredible comedy duo on paper and unsurprisingly on screen, together with the fraught action plotline, Date Night was always going to be a sure fire hit.

Juno

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Jason Reitman (Up in the Air, Thank You for Smoking), Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body, Young Adult)
Stars: Elliot Page (Inception, The Umbrella Academy), Michael Cera (Superbad, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Jennifer Garner (Alias, 13 Going on 30), J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man)
Runtime: 96 minutes
Year Released: 2007

Synopsis: Juno is a heartfelt coming-of-age dramedy that follows Juno MacGuff, a witty and independent teenager, as she navigates an unplanned pregnancy. Determined to find the perfect adoptive parents for her baby, Juno forms an unlikely bond with a couple while grappling with her own emotions and relationships. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

Tim’s Take: While there are a lot of coming-of-age movies involving pregnancy, I think Juno tops the lot. Awkward, funny and sad in small parts, it’s a sweet and easy feel-good watch.

Extraordinary

WYALAN Rating: 4/5
Created by: Emma Moran (debut project)
Stars: Máiréad Tyers (Belfast, Tell Me Everything), Sofia Oxenham (Poldark, Wreck), Bilal Hasna (Screw, The Lazarus Project), Luke Rollason (The Baby, Shadow and Bone)
Runtime: 2 seasons
Year Released: 2023

Synopsis: Extraordinary is a British superhero comedy series set in a world where everyone develops a superpower at the age of 18—except for Jen, a 25-year-old still waiting for hers. Struggling to find her place, Jen embarks on a journey of self-discovery with her quirky flatmates and a shapeshifting cat named Jizzlord.

Tim’s Take: For people who are tired of Marvel movies, Extraordinary flips the script. Aside from the powers, there are several great character developments which will provide happiness and sadness in equal parts – including Jizzlord. A very impressive debut from Moran and I look forward to future projects.

The Banshees of Inisherin

WYALAN Rating: 3.5/5
Created by: Martin McDonagh (In Bruges, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri)
Stars: Colin Farrell (The Lobster, In Bruges), Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, In Bruges), Kerry Condon (Better Call Saul, Rome), Barry Keoghan (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Eternals)
Runtime: 114 minutes
Year Released: 2022

Synopsis: The Banshees of Inisherin is a dark tragicomedy set on a remote Irish island during the Irish Civil War. It follows the fallout between two lifelong friends, Pádraic and Colm, after Colm abruptly ends their friendship. As tensions escalate, the film explores themes of loneliness, legacy, and human connection.

Tim’s Take: I love In Bruges, so The Banshees of Inisherin had big boots to fill. While I didn’t enjoy The Banshees of Inisherin as much as In Bruges, I do wonder if I critiqued the former too harshly, setting the bar too high. Maybe a second watch will improve its score, but I just found both characters to be unlikeable.

Interior Chinatown

WYALAN Rating: 3/5
Created by: Charles Yu (Westworld, Legion)
Stars: Jimmy O. Yang (Crazy Rich Asians, Silicon Valley), Ronny Chieng (The Daily Show, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Chloe Bennet (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Abominable), Sullivan Jones (The Gilded Age, Halston)
Runtime: 1 season
Year Released: 2024

Synopsis: Interior Chinatown is a genre-bending action comedy-drama based on Charles Yu’s National Book Award-winning novel. The series follows Willis Wu, a waiter in Chinatown who discovers he is merely a background character in a fictional police procedural. As Willis investigates the disappearance of his brother, he uncovers family secrets and the machinations behind his fictionalised world. There’s also a focus on meta-commentary on identity and representation.

Tim’s Take: A very strong start to the series, I felt there were too many episodes in the end unfortunately. It’s still worth a watch in my opinion for the creative storyline.

Wedding Season

WYALAN Rating: 3/5
Created by: Oliver Lyttelton (Cheaters, The Listener)
Stars: Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel, Brand New Cherry Flavor), Gavin Drea (Valhalla, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets), Callie Cooke (The Stranger, Rules of the Game), Bhav Joshi (Deadwater Fell, Vigil)
Runtime: 1 season
Year Released: 2022

Synopsis: Wedding Season is a genre-blending romantic comedy and action thriller. The story follows Katie, a bride whose wedding day turns into chaos when her new husband and his entire family are mysteriously murdered. Her lover, Stefan, becomes the prime suspect, but as the two go on the run, secrets unravel, and the truth becomes increasingly elusive.

Tim’s Take: I initially watched this as I like the comedy group Drea is a part of, Dreamguns. I think Wedding Season deserves a little more recognition, it’s a very decent fugitive story that feels fairly unique.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

WYALAN Rating: 3.5/5
Created by: Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox, The Royal Tenenbaums)
Stars: Ralph Fiennes (Schindler’s List, The English Patient), Tony Revolori (Spider-Man: Homecoming, Dope), Saoirse Ronan (Lady Bird, Little Women), Adrien Brody (The Pianist, The Grand Budapest Hotel)

Year Released: 2009

Synopsis: 500 Days of Summer is a romantic dramedy that explores the nonlinear journey of Tom Hansen, an aspiring architect, and his relationship with Summer Finn, a free-spirited woman who doesn’t believe in true love. Told through fragmented memories, the film captures the highs and lows of their connection, blending humor, heartbreak, and introspection. 500 Days of Summer challenges conventional romantic tropes, offering a fresh perspective on love and relationships.

Tim’s Take: As I’ve mentioned, 500 Days of Summer is one of my favourite rom-coms of all time. I think it perfectly journeys the highs and lows of relationships and questions hopes and infatuation vs compatibility and reality. If you liked La La Land, you might like 500 Days of Summer.

Theatre Camp

WYALAN Rating: 3/5
Created by: Molly Gordon (Shiva Baby, Booksmart), Nick Lieberman (debut feature film), Noah Galvin (The Real O’Neals, Booksmart), Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen, The Politician)
Stars: Molly Gordon (Shiva Baby, Booksmart), Ben Platt (Dear Evan Hansen, The Politician), Noah Galvin (The Real O’Neals, Booksmart), Jimmy Tatro (American Vandal, The King of Staten Island)
Runtime: 92 minutes
Year Released: 2023

Synopsis: Theatre Camp is a heartfelt comedy set at a scrappy summer camp for aspiring young performers. When the camp’s founder falls ill, her clueless son takes over, leading to chaos and hilarity. The eccentric staff and talented campers band together to save their beloved institution, showcasing their creativity and passion for the arts.

Tim’s Take: I was a little disappointed in Theatre Camp due to the impressive cast. I would say Theatre Camp is a gentle watch at least.
