Inside Llewyn Davis (2013) – [Drama/Music]
For fans of: A Serious Man, Her, The Ballad of Buster Scruggs
Oscar Isaac stars as a struggling folk singer in this melancholic Coen Brothers classic. BAFTA-nominated and Cannes Grand Prix winner, it’s poetic, bleakly funny, and musically rich.
Tim’s Take: I was surprised at how funny this was as I thought the story was more serious, but the Coen Brothers’ weave the humour well. WYALAN Rating – 4.5/5
Please Don’t Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain (2023) – [Comedy/Adventure]
For fans of: Hot Rod, Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, I Think You Should Leave
Produced by Judd Apatow and directed by Paul Briganti ,the SNL trio (Ben Marshall, John Higgins, Martin Herlihy) star as childhood friends on a chaotic quest for a legendary treasure.
Tim’s Take: It was my first time watching Please Don’t Destroy and I was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me of the early 2000’s comedy. WYALAN Rating – 4.5/5
Cunk on Life (2025) – [Mockumentary/Comedy]
For fans of: Cunk on Earth, The Office, Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe
Philomena Cunk returns to explore the meaning of existence with deadpan absurdity and faux-academic flair.
Tim’s Take: If you’re a fan of previous series, you’ll enjoy Cunk on Life which introduces a few new jokes. WYALAN Rating – 4/5
Thursday Murder Club (2025) – [Mystery/Comedy]
For fans of: Only Murders in the Building, Vera, The Marlow Murder Club
Adapted from Richard Osman’s bestselling novel, this cozy crime caper follows four retirees solving murders from their retirement village. With Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan, it’s charming, witty, and full of British flair. Tim’s Take: I was disappointed considering the hype behind the book and all-star cast. It’s a gentle watch, but there are far better comedy murder mysteries around. WYALAN Rating – 3/5
Reunion (2025) – [Drama/Mystery]
For fans of: The Affair, The Sinner, Pieces of Her
A group of estranged friends gather for a high school reunion, only to confront buried secrets and a mysterious death. It’s emotionally charged, twisty, and full of ensemble tension.
Tim’s Take: Started okay, but the comedy slowly lost pace. Again, there are far better comedy murder mysteries around. WYALAN Rating – 2.5/5
A House of Dynamite (2025) – [Political Thriller/Drama]
For fans of: Zero Dark Thirty, The Constant Gardener, Eye in the Sky
Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, this nuclear crisis thriller stars Rebecca Ferguson as a Situation Room strategist racing to stop an incoming missile. With Idris Elba, Jared Harris, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke, it’s tense, cerebral, and hailed as Netflix’s best film of the year.
